Rio Kadalis (also transcribed Riya ka dhalis or Riyo-ka-dhalis, literally meaning "helping a nanny goat give birth") is a traditional two-row mancala game played across Somalia, prominently among the Habr Awal and allied clans in Hargeisa and the Jigjiga region. First systematically documented in 1971 by Ethiopianist historian Richard Pankhurst, the game is intimately linked to the livestock traditions of Somali pastoralists. It is closely related to Horn of Africa mancala variants documented across Eritrea and Ethiopia, such as Lahemay Waladat, Lam Waladach, and Lamosh.
