概要

Djenon-abe is a sophisticated mancala game played by the Abé (also known as the Abbey or Abbe) people, who inhabit the fertile Agnéby-Tiassa region in southern Ivory Coast. Numbering approximately 180,000 individuals, the Abé maintain rich agricultural and oral traditions centered around the historic capital of Agboville. The game was first systematically documented in 2012 by researcher Jordi Climent Tondo during his field surveys of Ivorian mancala cultures.

Djenon-abe harmoniously blends multi-lap relay sowing with the classical West African even-parity capture principle. Unlike single-lap games, a turn can weave dynamically through multiple circuits around the twelve holes before culminating in a decisive multi-hole capture.
