Ô Ăn Quan ("Mandarin Square Capturing") is a celebrated traditional board game of Vietnam. Historically popular among children and rural communities, the game was commonly marked directly on packed earth, stone verandas, or pavements using charcoal or chalk, played with common gravel and two larger river rocks. Embodying themes of agrarian stewardship and tax collection, players manage five citizen plots and vie to capture the wealthy provincial governors (Mandarins) at either end. The cultural resonance of the game is immortalized in Vietnamese folk poetry, children's rhymes, and celebrated works of art, most notably the master painter Nguyễn Phan Chánh's 1931 silk masterpiece Chơi Ô ăn quan.
